What is "educational pricing?
Educational pricing refers to the substantial discounts (up to 75% off the retail price!) that many major software companies offer to university students. All currently enrolled CSU students, faculty, and staff may purchase a wide variety of popular software packages through the special educational pricing programs at RAMtech
Is educationally priced software the same as the regularly priced version?
Yes! An educationally priced software package contains the exact same version of the program that is included in its retail priced counterpart! There is no difference between the two other than the price!!!
Can I get a discount on computers by being a CSU student?

I am an enrolled student and want to purchase from the RAMtech. What do I need to do?

I am a distance student taking classes through CSU. Can I purchase from the RAMtech?
Yes! Distance students are required to fax us proof of enrollment at CSU, usually in the form of your CSU Registration Confirmation. In addition, we need to have a copy of a photo ID (CSU ID is preferred) and your CSU ID number to process the purchase. Payment can be made by either calling in a Visa/MasterCard number (or including it with the fax), or by mailing a check. Shipping is by UPS ground and is subject to a $10.00 flat shipping rate. Please call ahead for any faxed orders.
I will be a new student at CSU. Should I purchase a desktop or a laptop?
Generally, we suggest purchasing whatever is most convenient for you. Obviously, laptops are more portable, more compact, and can be used anywhere. Additionally, many buildings on campus have wireless networking capabilities that laptops with a wireless network card can take advantage of. Desktops are obviously less mobile, but are usually easier to upgrade and are generally less expensive. CSU maintains a hardware and software standards page for students. To see those recommendations, look at http://www.colostate.edu/acns/uitss/student.html.
I will be living in the dorms this semester. How can I connect to the internet?
Dorms only have wireless connections in their respective cafeterias. All dorm rooms have a standard "10BaseT" ethernet connection. Before you can use your room's data connection, you must first have Housing activate the line. Contact the Housing Department (491-6511) for more information. Second, you will need an Ethernet card (also called a network card) installed in your computer if you do not already have one. The card must also be configured for CSU network use. Finally, you will need an Ethernet cable. Ethernet cards and cables may be purchased at RAMtech.
I am interested in purchasing a new computer. Should I get a Mac or a PC?
If you are purchasing a new computer for use at Colorado State University you will want to check the University standards Computer and Software Recommendations for Students at http://www.colostate.edu/acns/uitss/student.html. These standards are university-wide; however your college may have additional recommendations. You can choose your college from links on the standards page, or check with your adviser for any additional recommendations.
